LOS ANGELES — No. 2 UCLA (19-1) put an end to an 18-match win streak by No. 8 Hawai’i (20-4) with a 4-1 win at home on Wednesday afternoon over the BeachBows at the Mapes Beach Invitational. The Bruins improved to 14-6 all-time against Hawai’i with the win.

UCLA showed no signs of rust after having last week off and won its 10th-straight dual while posting its second 4-1 win over the Rainbow Wahine this season.

Senior Rileigh Powers and graduate student Haley Hallgren put the Bruins up 1-0 with a straight-set win on court four over UH’s Sofia Russo and Lea Kruse, 21-17, 21-12. Powers and Hallgren improved to 18-0 on the year (13-0 on court four and 5-0 on court five).

Senior Lexy Denaburg and sophomore Jessie Smith teamed up for just the second time this season (2-0) to take down Kylin Loker and Riley Wagoner, 21-17, 21-16, on court two to put the Bruins up 2-0.

Junior Peri Brennan and graduate student Abby Van Winkle moved up to court one and remained undefeated at 11-0 on the year (2-0 on court one and 9-0 on court two) with a 21-10, 21-12 impressive victory over the BeachBows’ Brooke Van Sickle and Kaylee Glagau to clinch the dual victory. Van Sickle and Glagau entered the dual at 17-0 on the year on court one (now 19-2 overall) and saw their 16-match winning streak get snapped by the Bruin duo.

Hawai’i scored its lone point on court three when Ilihia Huddleston and Jaime Santer defeated the Bruin duo of sophomore Sophie Moore and redshirt junior Tessa Van Winkle, 21-16, 21-17. Huddleston and Santer are 13-0 on the year without dropping a set. It was the first loss of the season for Moore and Tessa Van Winkle (now 9-1 on the year, all on court three).

Bruin graduate students Marlie Monserez and Jaden Whitmarsh also posted an impressive win on court five, defeating UH’s Chandler Cowell and Sydney Miller, 21-12, 21-15, to provide the 4-1 final score. Whitmarsh and Monserez improved to 8-2 on the year (6-1 on court five and 2-1 on court four). Cowell and Miller dropped to 14-2 on the season (all on court five).
