No. 2 USC Beach Volleyball Tops No. 4 Florida State to Win 13th Straight

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (23-1) collected a 3-2 win over fourth-ranked Florida State (28-5) in the Center of Effort Challenge at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday, April 14.
 
The victory is USC’s 13th in a row, which ties the fifth-longest streak in school history. The Women of Troy have won seven straight over the Seminoles and improve to 20-5 all-time against Florida State. The Trojans also improve to 10-0 in duals played in San Luis Obispo.
 
Florida State scored the first point of the dual from court four when Caitlin Moon and Raelyn White defeated junior Olivia Bakos and freshman Gabby Walker in straight sets, 21-16, 21-17.
 
From there, the Trojans went 3-2-1, to secure the dual victory. At the No. 3 position, graduate Madison Shields and freshman Madison White collected their 13th win in a row by taking down Audrey Koenig and Carra Sassack, 21-19, 21-19.
 
USC went in front, 2-1, when twin seniors Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse dispatched of Anna Long and Jordan Polo in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18. The twins won their 12th straight match to improve to 19-3 on the season and to go to 82-13 all-time. The Nourses are now within nine wins of matching the second-highest total by a pair in school history.
 
The dual win went into the books when the Trojans’ junior duo of Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple knocked off Maddie Anderson and Paige Kalkhoff, 21-14, 21-18, at the top court. It was the seventh straight win for Kraft-Maple, which improves to 17-1 on the season.
 
With the dual decided, the No. 5 pairs went to three sets. Florida State’s Alexis Durish and Makenna Wolfe won the first set, 21-15, but the Trojans’ pair of graduate Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope and freshman Bailey Showalter took the second, 23-21. In the third, the Seminole duo claimed the match with a 15-11 win to make the final score, 3-2. 
 
USC returns to action on Saturday morning (April 15) at 10:15 a.m. PT against No. 11 Long Beach State (19-12). The Trojans look to pick up a third win at the Center of Effort Challenge to claim the pool and earn a berth into the first-place dual set for 5:45 p.m. PT.
