MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – The No. 3-ranked USC beach volleyball team (16-1) claimed a 4-1 win over No. 11 Georgia State (13-10) in the Trojans’ third match at the East Meets West Invitational at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday, April 1. It was the sixth dual victory in a row for the Women of Troy as USC moves to 19-1 all-time on Manhattan Beach sand.
The Trojans fired the first shot of the day and got a three-set win, 17-21, 21-15, 15-10, from senior twins Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse when they defeated Kelly Dorn and Elise Saga. The win helped the Nourse sisters improve to 13-3 on the season as they collected their 75th all-time win together.
USC went up, 2-0, with a win at the No. 4 pair as freshman Delaney Karl and graduate Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope took down Aliisa Vuorinen and Destiny White in three sets, 21-17, 18-21, 15-4.
The clinching point came from the No. 5 position where junior Olivia Bakos and freshman Gabby Walker earned the 21-14, 21-17 win over Maddy Delmonte and Ayla Johnson.
The Panthers scored their only dual point from the top court where twins Angel and Bella Ferary defeated the Trojans’ junior tandem of Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple in three sets, 13-21, 21-18, 15-13. It was the first loss of the season for Kraft-Maple.
In another three setter the Trojans tacked on a fourth point on a 19-21, 21-19, 17-15 win from graduate Madison Shields and freshman Madison White. The duo defeated Lila Bordis and Yasmin Kuck for their 11th win of the season.
In a non-scoring exhibition match, USC freshmen Bailey Showalter and Mabyn Thomas collected a 21-17, 21-16 win over Amanda Chambers and Kaebre Sullivan.
USC is back in action to conclude the East Meets West Invitational at the Manhattan Beach Pier against No. 16 Florida International at 3 p.m. PT. Links to live scores can be found at USCTrojans.com.
