Lexington, KY – The American Volleyball Coaches Association is pleased to recognize its 2023 group of Thirty Under 30 coaches. These rising leaders work hard and are passionate about teaching and helping grow the sport. Head men’s volleyball coach Felipe Nogueira was selected as one of the 30.

Thirty Under 30 honors up-and-coming coaches at all levels of volleyball—college, high school, and club—and the recipients serve in a range of roles, from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director. Nominees had to be under 30 as of Dec. 31, 2022, to qualify for the award.

It is a big year for the AVCA’s Thirty Under 30 program, which was created in 2009. The branding is receiving a fresh look, and you will see new logos as the awards are announced. Additionally, a new category will launch this October—Thirty Over 30. These awards will recognize coaches with 30 years of AVCA membership and those who have been coaching volleyball for 30 years.

Q&A FROM AVCA 30 UNDER 30:

Q: What made you decide to get into coaching volleyball?

A: I honestly never thought I would end up coaching volleyball for a living. I think the main reason I started coaching was the people that I met along the way. I am very thankful for all the coaches and teammates I crossed paths with growing up and who made me who I am today. I continue to coach because I want to continue to give back to the game that gave me so much and create meaningful connections with people that share similar passions. I think it is beautiful that we can use volleyball as a tool to do that.

Q: Which coaches have influenced you the most?

A: Donan Cruz was our head coach when I played and coached at Grand View University. Donan built the program from scratch. Create an amazing team culture that we call “One Team, One Family”. It is an honor to lead the same program and family that welcomed me in as a first-year international student from Sao Paulo, Brazil. There are many other coaches that I had growing up that taught me a lot about the values of competing and giving your best at all times. But without a doubt, Coach Cruz has been the most influential in my coaching career
