TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coming off an emphatic sweep on the road at Miami, the Florida State volleyball team will look to keep that momentum as they head to Atlanta, Ga., to face No. 13 Georgia Tech. First serve is set for 1 p.m. on ACCNX.
The two teams played just under three weeks ago inside of Tully Gym. The Seminoles gave the then ranked No. 10 Yellow Jackets all they could handle. The Seminoles took the first two sets, but Georgia Tech rallied to win the final three sets to defeat the Seminoles in five sets.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech is having another great season with a 19-7 record and is ranked No. 13 in the AVCA coaches poll. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a five-set loss to Pitt on Wednesday night. Since defeating the Seminoles in five sets on Nov. 6, the Yellow Jackets have dropped two out of its last three games with its only win coming against Clemson.
The Yellow Jackets have one of the top hitters in the country in Julia Bergmann. Bergmann has tallied 500 kills this season for a staggering 5.32 kills ber set. In the first match against the Seminoles, Bergmann had a career high and broke the single-season record at Georgia Tech for kills in a match with 37.
Returning to the Peach State
Both Ava Pitchford and Emery Dupes will be returning to their home state on Saturday. Dupes, a Marietta native, and Pitchford a Norcross native each played for some of the top programs in the state of Georgia. Pitchford handed Dupes her only high school loss at the A5 State Championship Game during their senior year of high school.
Getting Hot at the Right Time
Following back-to-back losses to Virginia and Pitt, the Noles were 12-7 and 4-4 in ACC play with their NCAA Tournament hopes coming down to the final 10 matches of the season. The Noles have won seven out its last nine games including a big 3-0 sweep against a top 50 team on the road against Miami. The Seminoles were firmly in the tournament in last week’s projection put out by Michella Chester from NCAA.com. Chester had FSU heading to Madison, Wisc., seeded as one of the top 32 teams.
A Model of Consistency
Senior middle blocker Emma Clothier played in her 100th career match for the Garnet and Gold on Oct. 30 against Boston College. Clothier has been a constant for the Seminoles in her four years at Tallahassee. Clothier has played in every single match for the Seminoles since she arrived on campus and has only missed four sets during her career with the Seminoles. Emma…
