Noles Fall in Five Sets to 10th-Ranked Georgia Tech

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Seminoles (16-9, 8-6) took No. 10 Georgia Tech (18-5, 11-3) to five sets (25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 10-15) Sunday afternoon in Tully Gym, but ultimately fell 3-2.

The Seminoles came out strong, taking the first set 25-14, while leading the entire set. With a .364 hitting percentage, the Seminoles landed 16 kills and had 14 digs.

The second set was a back-and-forth game, going point for point the first half of the set. After Georgia Tech led for one point when the set was 17-16, the Seminoles picked it back up and went on a 3-0 run. With the high energy in Tully Gym and building off the momentum of the first set, the Seminoles took the second set 25-21, ending with a .316 hitting percentage and adding 19 kills.

Georgia Tech came out swinging in the third set, with their largest lead by eight at 19-11. The Seminoles closed the gap, yet dropped the third set, 25-19, as Georgia Tech forced a fourth set.

In the fourth, the Seminoles battled to dig themselves out of a 14-5 hole. With an incredible 10-point run, they gap closed to an 18-17 Georgia Tech lead. Trading the last few points of the set, Georgia Tech took the fourth set, 25-20.

Georgia Tech was able to slowly grow their lead throughout the fifth set, taking it at 15-10.

Audrey Koenig led the Seminoles with 17 kills. Emily Ryan continued to attack at the net, finishing the game with 12 kills, five blocks, and a .350 hitting percentage. Khori Louis added 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.

Georgia Tech’s Julia Bergmann delivered 38 kills in the winning effort.

The Seminoles take on the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame next Friday, Nov. 11, at 6:30 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
