TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team will play one final regular season match inside of Tully Gym on Friday night against North Carolina. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. There is no broadcast for the match, but fans can follow along via live stats or at FSU_Volleyball on Twitter for updates throughout the match.
The Seminoles and Tar Heels have already met once this season when the Noles won a five-set thriller in Chapel Hill on Oct. 2. The Noles were down two key players in Audrey Rothman and Ava Pitchford in that match but still found a way to win. Audrey Koenig led the way with 15 kills in the match.
October’s five-set match is not something new to the series between the Seminoles and the Tar Heels. The last four meetings between the two teams have all gone five sets. In the last 10 meetings, six of the matches have gone five sets with the two teams splitting those six matches with three wins apiece.
The Noles are looking to protect Tully Gym once again. FSU has been phenomenal at home this season with an 11-2 record inside Tully Gym. The Noles’ only two losses came against top 10 teams in No. 2 Louisville and No. 10 Georgia Tech.
Scouting the Tar Heels
North Carolina is 15-11 overall and 7-8 in ACC play. The Tar Heels lost to the Seminoles in a five-set thriller on Oct. 2 in Chapel Hill. North Carolina has dropped its last two matches, both to No. 5 Louisville.
The Tar Heels have one of the top players in the ACC in Mabrey Shaffmaster. Shaffmaster is fourth in the ACC in with 369 kills and 3.97 kills per set. The Tar Heels also have one of the best setters in the conference in Anita Babic. The freshman is sixth in the conference with 818 assists on the season. The Tar Heels are the best serving team in the conference. The Tar Heels lead the ACC with 176 total aces and 1.81 aces per set.
