TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team is back on the road this Friday for a rematch with Notre Dame. The two teams played inside Tully Gym on Sept. 23 with the Noles winning in three sets. Friday’s match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and can be seen live on ACCNX.
Scouting the Fighting Irish
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will come into Friday’s match against the Noles with a 9-15 overall record and a 4-10 record in ACC play. The Fighting Irish have lost its last six matches.
When the two teams played on Sept. 23, the Seminoles dominated every aspect of the game on their way to a sweep. The Seminoles held the Fighting Irish to a .000 hitting percentage. Clare Delplane was the bright spot for the Fighting Irish with nine kills. Avery Ross leads Notre Dame with 200 kills this season with Lucy Trump following closely behind with 197 kills. The Fighting Irish have struggled on offense this season, ranking last in the ACC in points, kills, assists and hitting percentage.
A Model of Consistency
Senior middle blocker Emma Clothier played in her 100th career match for the Garnet and Gold on Oct. 30 against Boston College. Clothier has been a constant for the Seminoles in her four years at Tallahassee. Clothier has played in every single match for the Seminoles since she arrived on campus and has only missed four sets during her career with the Seminoles. Emma currently is 10th all-time in Florida State history in starts made in a career with 100.
Switching it Up
The Seminoles have had some bad injury luck this season which has caused Head Coach Chris Poole to be a little creative with the starting lineups this season. Through 25 matches, the Seminoles have used 11 different lineups.
Serving Up Aces
The Seminoles were phenomenal from the service line against Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Syracuse. The Seminoles tallied 40 total aces in those three consecutive matches which is the most in the ACC and the second-most in the NCAA this season. The Seminoles tallied 16 aces against Syracuse and 12 aces against both Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Emma Clothier leads the team with 34 aces and had six aces against Syracuse on Oct. 28. Her six aces is tied for the seventh-most all-time in program history.
