Non-Conference Finale at Hurricane Invitational


EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 20 Oregon volleyball team closes out its non-conference slate with a trip to Coral Gables, Fla., for the Hurricane Invitational (Sept. 17-18). The Ducks’ weekend features a pair of matches against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago in South Carolina and host Miami. The team enters the weekend with a 4-2 record.

Saturday’s match against South Carolina will be the first ever between the two teams, and UO’s first against an SEC opponent since 2016. Oregon and Miami have met just once prior to this weekend’s match, a 3-0 victory for the Ducks in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in Lincoln, Neb.
 
Through the first three weeks of the 2022 campaign, senior outside Brooke Nuneviller is fourth in the Pac-12 with 4.04 kills per set to go along with 3.04 digs per set. She is joined by freshman Mimi Colyer who is averaging 3.32 kills per set, good for eighth in the conference. Nuneviller enters the Hurricane Invitational needing 30 kills to move into the program’s career top 15.
 
In their last outing, the Ducks lost to then-No. 20 Penn State (Sept. 10) in five at the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge in Minneapolis. Nuneviller (16 kills, 16 digs) and Hannah Pukis (47 assists, 13 digs) posted double-doubles while libero Georgia Murphy picked up 19 digs. Oregon is now 2-1 in five setter this season.
 
Murphy, sixth in the Pac-12 at 3.48 digs per set, heads into Saturday’s match needing just five digs to crack the Oregon top-10 career list. She is also one of three UO players in the top 15 in the conference, along with Nuneviller in 11th and Pukis (3.00 d/s) tied for 13th in digs per set. Collectively, the Ducks are fourth in the Pac-12 with 14.76 digs per set.
 
In that match against Penn State, senior opposite Gloria Mutiri put down a season-high 12 kills with no attack errors on 27 swings, good for a .444 hitting percentage. She also had three total blocks versus the Nittany Lions. Mutiri went into the match with a season high of seven kills against Rice (Sept. 3).
