STANFORD, Calif. – No. 8 Stanford (6-5) returns to The Farm this week to play host to UC Merced (2-7) on Friday and No. 14 UC San Diego (10-4) on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. both nights from Burnham Pavilion.
LAST TIME OUT: Stanford won a pair of matches at Vanguard last week, hitting .343 as a team. Opposite Moses Wagner led the Cardinal on both sides of the ball, averaging 4.29 kills on .446 hitting, 0.57 aces, 1.57 digs, 1.14 blocks and 5.50 points per set. For his efforts, he collected his first career MPSF Defensive Player of the Week honors. Outside hitter Nate Clinton added 2.71 kills on .385 hitting, while setter Theoren Brouillette tallied 9.14 assists.
COACHES POLL: Stanford was picked to finish sixth in the MPSF by the league’s coaches. UCLA, which received eight first-place votes, was selected to win its fourth straight MPSF regular season title. USC came in second, while BYU, which collected the final first-place vote, was third.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Moses Wagner picked up his first career MPSF Offensive Player of the Week honor on Jan. 13, and his first Defensive Player of the Week award on Feb. 24. Freshman libero Evan Porter earned the MPSF’s defensive nod after averaging 2.86 digs per set in a pair of top 15 wins at the First Point Collegiate Challenge. Theo Snoey also collected his first career weekly honor after the team split a pair of matches at No. 4 Hawaii.
