In reference to the difficulty of the Buckeyes’ preseason schedule, Murr said, “I think it’s setting us up for success. We have to play the best to be the best. We’ve been putting in a lot of time this summer as a team, not even just focusing on volleyball, but becoming the best teammates we can and creating that bond with one another. In the end, everyone has talent, but it comes down to who can get through the adversity and who can get through the challenges the most, who is willing to fight for one another the most. That’s what our focus has been as seniors and captains on this team with younger teammates coming in and trying to create that bond.”
All 14 teams gathered on Monday evening for an exclusive reception and dinner at a local restaurant. Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren welcomed everyone to the event that also included a speech from Maryland student-athlete Rainelle Jones. In Jones’ speech, she specifically thanked Oldenburg for helping create a welcoming and supportive environment inside Covelli. Due to Oldenburg’s support, Jones felt comfortable kneeling during the anthem for the first time last season – a statement that inspired her to begin speaking up for what she believes in and becoming an agent of change.
