Olivia Babcock Named AVCA National Player of the Week for Third Time in Early Career


PITTSBURGH – Sophomore right side Olivia Babcock has been awarded the AVCA National Player of the Week honor, announced Tuesday afternoon. This is her third national weekly award in Olivia’s career and is the only player in program history to have more than one to her name.  Babcock recorded 39 kills, seven blocks, seven digs, six aces and a pair of assists in two sweeps over No. 22 Florida State and Miami this past weekend. 

Babcock averaged 8.08 points per set, 6.50 kills per set, hitting .525, 1.17 blocks per set, 1.17 digs per set and 1.00 ace per set in both matches. She registered 19 kills, hitting .519, four digs, four blocks, an ace and an assist in three sets against No. 22 Florida State on Friday. Babcock continued her impressive play against the Hurricanes on Sunday, notching 20 kills, hitting .531, five aces, three blocks, three digs and an assist. Her five aces against the Hurricanes are the second most in a match this season. She set an all-time program record for most aces in a single season in the 25 point scoring era against Miami on Sunday and currently has 56.

Babcock and the No. 1 Panthers are on the road this week as they play Wake Forest on Friday at 7 p.m. and NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively. Both matches will be streamed on ACCNX.
