Orange Fall To Fighting Irish In Straight Sets

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse volleyball (8-7, 4-1 ACC) faced off against Notre Dame (6-9, 1-4 ACC) on Friday night inside the friendly confines of the Women’s Building. The Fighting Irish took the victory over the Orange, 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 20-25).
 
As a team, the Fighting Irish led the match in points (54-49), kills (46-39), assists (44-38), and digs (48-35). Syracuse held a block party over ND (8-6) and there were two aces on both sides of the net.  
 
Graduate Polina Shemanova led ‘Cuse with 15 kills and 11 digs (13th double-double of the season, ninth consecutive). Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk recorded nine kills and Bre Walp followed with just two less. Sophomore Riley Hoffman locked in her sixth double-double of the season by recording 22 assists and 11 digs in tonight’s match. 
 
After the loss in straight sets, Shemanova now sits at 1,688 career kills, just 10 away (11 to claim the top spot) from tieing Dana Fiume’s all-time career kills record (1,698).
 
‘Cuse will be back in action on Sunday, October 9th, as the squad will face #2 Louisville. Opening service is slated for 1 p.m. inside the women’s building. The action will stream live on ACCNX.
