Orange Lose To Florida State At Home

Miami

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse volleyball (10-11, 6-5 ACC) lost to Florida State (15-7, 7-4 ACC), 3-1 (19-25, 15-25, 25-20, 21-25), at home inside the Women’s Building on Friday night.

“We knew it was going to be a tough match,” said head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. “I have to give credit to Florida States’ front row, they came to compete tonight. We have to work on our serve-recive, blocking game, and be more aggressive moving forward.”

The Orange attempted to stage a comeback in the third frame, as midway through SU ran off a 5-0 run with three consecutive kills from Polina Shemanova and two service aces from Alyssa Bert, giving the squad a 9-7 advantage. FSU tied things up, 9-9, and ‘Cuse tookoff on a 7-0 run to make it a 16-7 game. The Orange continued to hold the lead and capture the set, 25-20, for their only set victory of the night.

Three Orange recorded double-doubles in the matchup, Shemanova clocked in her 17th of the season by recording 19 kills and 22 digs, Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk followed with 16 kills and 11 digs, and Lauren Woodford dished out 21 assists and 13 digs. Riley Hoffman had a match-high 25 assists.

The Orange will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 30, as they welcome the Miami Hurricanes. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m. and the contest will stream live on ACCNX.
