Orzol, Fuerbringer Earn Volleyball Awards


MADISON, Wis. – The 2024 Wisconsin volleyball team celebrated its season on Saturday with the team’s annual banquet at Union South. The Badgers recognized its season success and presented two team awards.
 
Head coach Kelly Sheffield announced that outside hitter Julia Orzol was named 2024 Bring It Award winner, while freshman setter Charlie Fuerbringer was named Most Improved Player.
 
The Bring It Award is the highest award given by the team. It is presented to the player that consistently shows up to play and practice each and every day. She is an athlete that is consistently practicing on her competitive edge, shows tremendous leadership in times of success and adversity, and is a player that is always supporting teammates in order to build a positive system and community. 
 

In 2023, Orzol transitioned from outside hitter to libero for the season, and in 2024, she went back to being a pin hitter and named a team captain. This season, the six-foot outside hitter was named All-Big Ten Second Team, a similar feat she attained in 2022. She finished third on the team with an average of 2.07 kills per set, led the team with 40 service aces, and was third on the team with 2.31 digs per set. The Poland native also recorded five double-doubles this season, including setting a career-best hitting percentage against Milwaukee, .684, and also set a career-best 15 kills against Texas A&M on Sept. 21. 
 
Academically, Orol cemented her name in the record books with back-to-back College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honors. This season, Orzol was named Second Team Academic All-American, and is just the second in program history as a multi-year recipient of the award. Lastly. Orzol finished with 3.94 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in business: accounting, and has signed a professional contract with a LOTTO Chemik Police in Poland.
 
With high expectations entering the 2024 campaign, freshman setter Charlie Fuerbringer met the challenge head on. Fuerbringer improved each and every match, and ultimately was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Third Team All-American, AVCA North Region Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-Big Ten, and a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshmen Team. The California native totaled 1270 assists, which was fifth most for a freshman season record….
