RALEIGH – NC State volleyball (11-10, 5-5) fell to North Carolina (12-8, 4-5) in three sets on Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum.
Vanja Bukilic led the way for the Wolfpack with 13 kills, while Kristen McDaniel aided the offensive effort with 14 assists.
Defensively, Jada Allen posted three blocks.
The night was highlighted by a pregame ceremony highlighting McDaniel reaching 2,000 assists in her collegiate career, a mark she reached on October 16 against Boston College.
Set One (24-26)
After surrendering a 4-1 run to the Tar Heels to start the evening, the Pack fought through a tightly-contested set that resulted in NC State taking a late 18-17 lead after a block from Martyna Leoniak. After a run from North Carolina knotted the score at 22 later in the set, the Pack picked up back-to-back points to gain a 24-22 edge and multiple set points. A four-point swing from the Tar Heels was enough to capture the set, nonetheless at 26-24.
Set Two (17-25)
The penultimate set saw the Tar Heels add two four-point runs to answer NC State’s early lead. After the Wolfpack led by as many as three points in the opening portion of the set, North Carolina grabbed its first lead since the opening point at 12-11. The Tar Heels proceeded to outscore the Pack 13-6 over the next 19 points, closing out the set 25-17.
Set Three (18-25)
