Pack Falls to Wake Forest After Long Battle

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The NC State volleyball team fell to Wake Forest, 3-1, after a long battle Sunday evening. 

Freshman Ava Brizard recorded her fourth career double-double after tallying 12 kills and 13 digs. 

Martyna Leoniak set a new career high with 15 kills and added seven digs to the books. 

Sophomore Jada Allen recorded eight blocks for the Pack, in addition to six kills. 

Set One (23-25)

The strength was in the Pack to start. NC State took five straight points, four of which started with Leoniak behind the service line. The Demon Deacons took its first lead of the set, 12-10,  after an error by the Pack and a block. The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the set. Wake Forest managed to maintain the lead. After tying the set eight different times, the Demon Deacons came out on top.

Set Two (24-26)

It was a battle from the first serve – Wake Forest would lead by one, NC State would tie it up right after. The Pack took its first lead of the set, 10-9. The Pack maintained the lead despite the Demon Deacons efforts to stop them. It wasn’t until NC State recorded an error on a serve from the Deacons that Wake Forest took the lead, 23-22.

Set Three (25-22)

The back and forth battle continued into the third set. After Wake Forest took a 17-14 lead, the Pack had enough and went on an 8-3 scoring run. Leoniak and Amanda Rice dominated for the Pack and helped secure the third set to keep the match going. 

Set Four (18-25)
