UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State seniors Kaitlyn Hord and Jonni Parker were named to the AVCA All-Northeast Region Team on Tuesday, while fellow senior Jenna Hampton was selected as an honorable mention. The three received the honors after leading the Nittany Lions to a 21-11 record and their 41st-straight appearance in the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
Hord, a middle blocker, earned the fourth All-Northeast Region honor of her career. She ranks third in the nation with 165 total blocks and seventh with 1.40 blocks/set. Offensively, she hit .394 on the season, which ranks third in the Big Ten, while averaging 2.92 kills/set. Hord adds the all-region honor to the first-team All-Big Ten award she received last week.
Parker, a right-side hitter, also picked up her fourth career All-Northeast Region accolade. She ranks in the top 10 in the Big Ten in numerous categories, including fourth in kills (448), fifth in points (514.5), sixth in kills/set (3.76), sixth in points/set (4.32), sixth in total attacks (1,209) and eighth in attacks/set (10.16). She added 1.89 digs/set and 0.82 blocks/set. Parker joined Hord as a first-team All-Big Ten honoree last week.
Hampton emerged as one of the best liberos in the Big Ten in her second season as the team’s starter at the position. She ranks third in the conference in digs (530) and sixth in digs/set (4.45). Most important, she excelled in Big Ten play, leading all players with 4.83 digs/set in conference matches. It is the first honorable-mention all-region award of Hampton’s career. She adds it to the second-team All-Big Ten honor she received last week.
