Pinciaro Paces Women’s Volleyball in 3-1 Win over SUNY Delhi

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – First-year Georgia Pinciaro led all players with a match-high 15 kills to help the Union College women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16) victory over SUNY Delhi in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Viniar Athletic Center.
 
Pinciaro was red-hot for Union (9-3) on the evening, putting down 15 kills with two errors on 31 attempts for a .419 hitting percentage while also adding a team-best four blocks. Sophomore Shelby McKim and first-year Adrianna Long both hit .429 with identical 7-1-14 stat lines, while junior Shannon McGrath chipped in 10 kills and classmate Georgia Pool chipped in a team-best 16 digs and five service aces.
 
The Garnet Chargers used several long runs to take control of the opening set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead and later using a 6-0 stretch and another 7-1 run to take the early lead.
 
After Union’s worst hitting set of the night (.065) helped Delhi even the match, the home team came back with .462 hitting (13 kills, one error) in the third frame to regain control. Pool had five of the team’s six aces in the set, including three in a row, as Union won nine points on her serve to take a 2-1 lead. The Garnet Chargers put down 13 kills again in the fourth set to finish off the match, helped by five kills and two aces from McGrath.
 
Union will return to action on Saturday at Drew University, taking on the host Rangers at 3 p.m. after facing off with DeSales University at 1 p.m.
