GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt outside hitter Courtney Buzzerio repeats as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, and North Carolina setter Anita Babic earns her second consecutive ACC Freshman Volleyball Player of the Week award.
Buzzerio was a crucial part of No. 8 Pitt’s upset of No. 2 Louisville in a five-set match, nailing the three final kills of the fifth set to secure the highest ranked win in Pitt’s history. It was also the Panthers’ fourth straight top-10 victory. Buzzerio dealt 22 kills – her most as a Panther – while hitting .302 and tallied a season-best eight digs against the Cards. In a 3-0 sweep of Notre Dame, Buzzerio hit a .318 clip with 11 kills. The Chino Hills, California native leads the nation in hitting percentage among those with over 600 attempts (.343 on 618).
In a 2-0 road weekend for North Carolina, Babic tallied 69 assists, averaging 9.86 assists per set. Her 42 assists at Duke was her sixth match with more than 40 assists on the season. She also set a new career-best five blocks against the Blue Devils. The setter added 12 total digs and eight kills while tying her career-high six kills in the Tar Heels’ sweep of NC State.
