“PRINCESS CUP” WOMEN’S U18 SOUTHEAST ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO KICK OFF ON JUNE 8

Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 7, 2024 – All is set for he 22nd “Princess Cup” Women’s U18 Southeast Asian Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium from June 8 to 13, a stepping stone for all participating teams to hone their skill ahead of the much-anticipated 15th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the same venue between June 16 and 23.

Six teams featuring Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and hosts Thailand will strut their stuff in the single round-robin tournament. After that, top two teams will battle it out for the eventual title. The third- and fourth-ranked sides will fight for the third position, with the fifth- and sixth-ranked teams vying for the fifth place.

In their campaign opener on Saturday, Philippines will take on Singapore, while Malaysia play Australia and Indonesia challenge Thailand.

To ensure a smooth run and a success of the six-day tournament, the joint meeting took place at the Meeting Room inside the Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium on Thursday, with Control Committee President and Technical Delegate Mr Chia Min Chong from Singapore and SAVA (Southeast Asia Volleyball Association) Coordinator Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, himself AVC Executive Director, jointly presiding.

The bi-lateral meeting between Control Committee members and local organisers was held to first check readiness ahead of the tournament. Also in attendance were those involved in the competition including competition director, court manager, referee manager, technical manager and facility manger.

Mr Shanrit welcome all attendants and discussed the relevant activities which lie ahead including the preliminary inquiry, the VIS & Referee Clinic, the General Technical Meeting, transportation and accommodations. 

The VIS & Referee Clinic was held on Friday, with Referee Delegate Mr Songsak Chareonpong and Referee Sub Committee Mr Jirachai Kasemsook jointly presiding for the pre-competition clinic for referees and VIS staff in preparation for the tournament.

The clinic started in the morning with the theoretical phase, followed by the on-court practical session with light and sound system applied. All referees, court & referee managers, supervisors, announcers, scorers, line judges, moppers, ball retrievers, VIS Delegate Mr Pavarit Dairinram together with two demonstration teams attended the…
