Astana 2023: Day 1 – As It Happens

Astana, Kazakhstan, 2 July 2023 – ParaVolley Asia Oceania expressed its commitment to strengthen awareness and initiatives toward safeguarding as technical officials convened with teams during the General Technical Meeting ahead of the competition at the 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball Asian Zone Championships.

Glenn Stewart, who is serving as Technical Delegate during the Zonals in the Kazakh capital city, addressed the group and explained the rationale and the systems in place in order to protect the integrity of the sport through safeguarding.

“It is my honor to be part of ParaVolley Asia Oceania, and to serve this community, this family, that shows genuine care for one another. Part of this is the responsibility to ensure that we continue to have a safe environment that will be thoroughly conducive for everyone to simply focus on the competition,” Stewart said.

WPV Medical Director Louise Ashcroft, who is supporting the team of Technical Officials in Astana, commended the efforts of PVAO, in helping strengthen safeguarding initiatives in competition platforms for the Asia-Oceania zone.

“On behalf of the world ParaVolley Safeguarding Integrity Commission , I congratulate PVAO for their support of the Safeguarding of our athletes, ITOs and all members of the ParaVolley community. It is so important to have engagement of our zones to help build and maintain a culture of respect and healthy participation in paravolley sport,” she said.
