PITTSBURGH – Rachel Fairbanks and Olivia Babcock were named ACC Setter of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, announced by the conference Monday evening. This marks the fourth ACC weekly award for Fairbanks and third for Babcock. The duo led the Panthers to two sweeps over No. 22 Florida State and Miami.
Fairbanks averaged 12.00 assists per set and 2.17 digs per set this past weekend and set Pitt to a .438 team hitting percentage. She notched 36 assists, three digs, two aces and two kills against No. 22 Florida State on Friday night. Pitt hit a blistering .473 as a team. Fairbanks followed that up with a solid performance against Miami as she recorded a double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs, also adding two blocks and a kill. For the second consecutive outing, Pitt hit above .400 with an efficient .409 clip, marking the seventh match this season the Panthers have done so.
Babcock averaged 8.08 points per set, 6.50 kills per set, hitting .525, 1.17 blocks per set, 1.17 digs per set and 1.00 ace per set in both matches. She recorded 19 kills, hitting .519, four digs, four blocks, an ace and an assist in three sets against No. 22 Florida State on Friday. Babcock continued her impressive play against the Hurricanes on Sunday, notching 20 kills, hitting .531, five aces, three blocks, three digs and an assist against Miami on Sunday afternoon. Her five aces against the Hurricanes are the second most in a match this season. She set an all-time program record for most aces in a single season in the 25 point scoring era against Miami on Sunday and currently has 56 to her name.
The No. 1 Panthers are on the road this week as they play Wake Forest on Friday at 7 p.m. and NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively. Both matches will be streamed on ACCNX.
