KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Outside hitter Nina Cajic, the 2023 CAA Player of the Year from Towson, signed with Tennessee volleyball, head coach Eve Rackham Watt announced Monday.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce the addition of Nina Cajic to our Rocky Top family,” Rackham Watt said. “Not only was she the 2023 CAA Player of the Year, but she also put up some of the best offensive numbers in the country last season. Her conference championship and postseason experience will be a great addition to our returning core. Nina is an exceptional point scorer on the outside, excels in all six rotations and has a dynamic serve. She is truly a fun player to watch, and I believe her best volleyball is still ahead.
“Beyond volleyball, Nina is a person of remarkable character and will provide leadership to our younger players. She has set lofty goals for both herself and her future in the sport. We firmly believe that our coaching staff, combined with her unwavering work ethic, will foster her development and enable her to reach new heights. Our staff eagerly awaits the opportunity to train Nina, firmly believing that her presence on the court will contribute to an unparalleled level of success.”
With one season of eligibility left, Cajic arrives on Rocky Top after four successful seasons at Towson, where she tallied 983 kills on .342 hitting, 395 digs, 210 blocks and 59 aces. She guided the Tigers to four straight CAA Regular Season titles, three conference tournament championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
In addition to being tabbed conference player of the year last season, Cajic also garnered All-CAA honors each year, including first team recognition three out of the four seasons. In 2022, she became the first player in program history to earn AVCA National Division I Player of the Week accolades after totaling 32 kills on .698 hitting against Stony Brook. Throughout her career, Cajic recorded eight double-doubles and three 20-kill efforts.
In 2023, the Subotica, Serbia, native accumulated 458 points, 389 kills, 215 digs, 41 aces and 34 assists — all of which marked career bests — in 106 sets played to earn CAA Player of the Year honors. She ranked second in the conference in kills and kills per set (3.67). She posted double-digit kills in 23 matches, including a pair of 20-kill performances, and had seven matches with 10 or more digs to finish with six double-doubles for the Tigers.
