CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland posted a team .391 attack percentage on its way to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-19 sweep of visiting New Paltz in a SUNYAC women’s volleyball match.
The Red Dragons improved to 17-5 overall and are 5-0 in conference play. New Paltz fell to 9-10 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Cortland finished the evening with 44 kills and 10 errors in 87 attempts. Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) led the team with 10 kills and no errors in 14 attempts for a .714 attack percentage. Kyrah Wilbur (Syracuse/Baldwinsville) ended with nine kills and a .238 attack percentage, Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) had seven kills and one error in 13 attempts for a .462 mark and Jennifer Koestner (Syosset) finished with seven kills and two errors in 19 attempts for a .263 mark.
In addition, Kira Pirrera (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) had five kills and a .300 attack percentage and Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) put down four kills with no errors in six attempts (.667).
Guedez led Cortland with five blocks, one solo, and three aces. Koestner had three blocks, Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) finished with 19 assists and two aces, and Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) paced the team with 12 digs, followed by Hinshaw with seven and Pilkey with six.
Jamie Albrecht and Mirella Valluzzi led New Paltz with six kills each and Elena Savage had 20 assists and nine digs. The Hawks were held to a .045 team attack percentage (24 kills, 20 errors in 88 attempts).
