Red River Athletic Conference – RRAC recognizes 2021 volleyball all-conference team and players of the year

WACO, Texas — At a reception prior to the RRAC volleyball tournament, the selections for the 2021 RRAC Volleyball All-Conference team were announced along with player of the year honors. Awards were determined through voting by RRAC head coaches. 

2021 RRAC Volleyball All-Conference Team

Our Lady of the Lake, the regular season co-champion with Xavier, had a run on player of the year awards. The Saints were led by double award-winner Madelynn Strzelczyk who was named Player of the Year and Setter of the Year. OLLU’s Tina Trevino also captured two awards including Defender of the Year and Freshman of the Year. In addition, Camila Ramirez received the Attacker of the Year nod. 

Huston-Tillotson’s Mckenzie Dimery earned the RRAC Newcomer of the Year honor. 

Both OLLU and Xavier placed four players on the all-conference first team. Xavier is represented by setter Semira Blair, libero Linda Mungai, middle blocker Vivica Price-Spraggins, and outside hitter Kennedy Wade. OLLU’s first-teamers include middle hitter Sadie Ballesteros, outside hitter Ramirez, setter Strzelczyk and libero Trevino. 

Huston-Tillotson was recognized with three first-team selections including Dimery, Kasani Horace and Kennedy White. Southwest’s Alexia Esparza and Autumn Lopez and Paul Quinn’s Kennadi Harris wrapped up the first team. 

Ballesteros and Lopez were the only repeat selections from an abbreviated all-conference list last spring. 

The 2021 RRAC Volleyball Championship starts Friday at 11 a.m. Fourth-seeded USW will meet No. 5 Wiley in a first round match followed by third-seeded Huston-Tillotson versus No. 6 Jarvis Christian. The semifinals will be played later in the evening with No. 1 Xavier awaiting the winner of the first match and No. 2 OLLU playing the late match against the team that advances from the HT-JCC contest.
