PITTSBURGH – Football’s Desmond Reid and Volleyball’s Rachel Fairbanks were named this week’s PNC Achievers of the Week.
Desmond Reid helped the Panthers to a resounding 55-24 win last Saturday against Kent State. The junior compiled an ACC-best 234 all-purpose yards while adding a rushing touchdown and a 78-yard punt return for a score in his first game as a Panther. Reid collected 145 yards on 14 carries on the ground against the Golden Flashes and broke free for an explosive 46-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter. The running back from Miami Gardens, FL would also go on to catch three passes out of the backfield for 11 yards. Reid and the Panthers will look to continue their momentum this weekend as they travel to Cincinnati for a week two matchup against the Bearcats.
Senior setter Rachel Fairbanks recorded a match-high 34 assists and 10 digs in the sweep over #10 Oregon for her first double-double of the season. She notched a double-double in back-to-back matches with a match-high 25 assists and 11 digs in the sweep over Long Beach State.
