Robinson, Loreen Make National Pairs Semifinals

Washington’s Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen are part of the first final four of the first ever AVCA Beach Volleyball Pairs National Championship, as the Husky seniors won three times today in Alabama to reach the semifinals. Loreen and Robinson will have a chance at a national title on Sunday, needing two more wins.
 
The two Beach Dawgs ran their record to 6-0 at the inaugural AVCA Pairs Championship. With fall pairs play added for the first time this season, a pairs national championship was created to cap off the fall. The team championships will remain in the spring.
 
Robinson and Loreen will play a pair from TCU in the semifinal on Sunday at 10 a.m. Pacific time. If they win, they will play the winner of the other semifinal between LSU and Grand Canyon. The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Pacific time and will be live streamed by the AVCA.
 
Robinson and Loreen had a first round bye thanks to their 3-0 record in pool play. In the second round, they pulled out a tough first set then rolled against Tulane’s Ebertin/Peters, 23-21, 21-11.
 
They lost their first set of the tournament in the round of 16, but rallied. After losing the first, 17-21, to Hawaii’s Loker/Santer, they took the second set, 21-16, and had a late rally to win the third set, 15-13.
 
Against another Pac-12 squad in the quarterfinals, Robinson and Loreen pulled out another three setter, beating Reilly/Ekstrom, 21-17, 17-21, 15-7. Reilly and Ekstrom were both All-Pac-12 Second Teamers for the Cardinal last spring.
 
Piper Monk-Heidrich and Teagan DeFalco had a first round loss against Cal’s Radell/Delgado, 21-10, 21-18. They moved into the consolation bracket and fell in a tight one to Arizona’s Russell/Shannon, 21-17, 18-21, 15-12.
