Saturday's Maroon and Gold Will Be First Volleyball Event in Mullett

TEMPE – The annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage for Sun Devil Volleyball will be held this Saturday, August 19, at 1 p.m. MST in Mullett Arena, the first volleyball event to be held in that facility.

The scrimmage, which is free to the public, will give fans their first look at new head coach JJ Van Niel and the team, which features nine returners and six newcomers. The event will see the team play at least four sets, potentially five, with no fixed teams. Fans will also get their first chance to see Mullett Arena in a volleyball setup for the first time ever.

Of the nine returners, eight have playing experience and six have started in a match. Among the newcomers, three are freshmen and the other three are transfers (a sophomore, junior and fifth-year senior). The season preview posted earlier this week provides a breakdown of each student-athlete by position.

There will be no live stream or live scoring. Those attending can park in lot 59. There will be a clear bag policy.
