Scoggins’ Region Freshman of the Year Honor Highlights AVCA All-Region Awards


TUCSON, Ariz. – Three Wildcats earned AVCA All-Pacific Region honors, highlighted by Avery Scoggins’ Region Freshman of the Year award, announced by the association on Tuesday. Jaelyn Hodge and Jordan Wilson were named All-Region Honorable Mention.
 
Scoggins is the third Region Freshman of the Year honoree in Arizona Volleyball History. Kim Glass was the first to win the award in 2002 and Sofia Maldonado-Diaz earned the title following the 2020-21 season. Arizona’s three honorees are the program’s most since 2001 when Dana Burkholder, Lisa Rutlegde, and Jill Talbot earned All-Region honors.
 
Scoggins, a freshman from New Bern, North Carolina is earning her first AVCA All-Region honor after being named second-team All-Big 12 and making the Big 12 All-Rookie team last week after finishing the regular season with 1,029 assists, averaging 10.50 assists/set, and 2.62 digs/set. Scoggins was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week four times during the regular season. Currently, Scoggins has 1,056 assists which ranks fifth in Arizona freshman history.

Hodge is garnering her first All-Region nod as an honorable mention after earning first-team All-Big 12 honors last week. The fifth-year senior from Queen Creek, Arizona finished the regular season with 380 kills and averaged 3.80 kills/set this season to rank second on the team in both categories. Additionally, Hodge set Arizona record for sets played and matches played and currently ranks fifth in program history with 1,599 career kills.

 

Wilson is receiving honorable mention All-Pacific for the first time in her career. Last week, she was named first-team All-Big 12 after finishing the regular season with 389 kills and 3.81 kills/set to lead Arizona. The junior from Gilbert, Arizona currently has 400 kills and has recorded 12 double-doubles this season.
