PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team fell in straight sets to the #1 seeded Cardinals from St. John Fisher on Friday evening in the conference semifinals. After a tightly-contested opening set the saw the Cardinals take a 25-19 contest, the Soaring Eagles put together a 27-25 effort in the third set which Fisher came out ontop of.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles and Cardinals played a close first set, with the score tied at 8-8 until Fisher used a 8-0 run to take a 15-8 lead. After the teams traded points for the next third of the set, the tournament hosts put together a 5-0 run to conclude the set with a 25-19 victory.
In the second, EC wasn’t able to score more than a pair of consecutive points, while Fisher put together two runs of six or more points in the set. After hitting -.185% in the opening set, the Purple & Gold put together a positive set as they hit .053% as a team in the second.
Trailing 2-0, the Soaring Eagles put together their best set of the evening and cruised to an early 6-0 lead. After Fisher notched a point, EC went for five straight which extended their lead to 11-1 in the early going. The hosts steadily clawed their way back into the set and with EC leading 24-20, were able to score five straight to regain a 25-24 advantage. After Asia Curkendall ’25 notched a kill for EC, Fisher scored the final two points of the contest to take a 27-25 third set victory.
With the loss, the Soaring Eagles’ season comes to an end. Ava Wallingford ’25, Calli Vocke ’23, and Sam Sprague ’22 led the way in kills with five a piece. Curkendall contributed 14 assists to her ledger.
