EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon beach volleyball team capped its regular season Thursday with a 5-0 home win over Portland at Amazon Park. The victory was the Ducks’ 10th of the year and third over Portland in the past six days. Oregon also improved to 16-3 all-time against the Pilots including 15 in a row.
Prior to the match, the Ducks recognized seniors Zoe Almanza, Chloe Brown, Bea Wetton and manager Eva Xiaoyun Tate.
Oregon 5, Portland 0
The Ducks jumped out to a 2-0 lead with straight-set wins at No. 2 and 4 pairs during the first wave of matches. Wetton and Ella Tyus pushed their single-season wins total to 19 with a 21-14, 21-12 victory over Jayde Harris and Noelani Helm.
Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder picked up their 15th win of the season, besting Taylor Helle and Elin Larsson by way of a 21-18, 21-18 score line. It was a rematch of the deciding dual in the Ducks’ 3-2 over Portland four days ago in the third-place match of the Husky Invitational (April 16).
Almanza and Brown, the Ducks’ only senior-senior duo, clinched the team win with a 21-13, 21-23, 15-11 triumph over Annika Stammberger and Alina Valenti at the top of the lineup. The Pilots’ pair took a late 10-9 victory but Almanza and Brown won six of the last seven points to close out the match. With the result, Almanza reached 20 career wins.
Oregon (10-22) pushed its advantage to 4-0 with a straight-set win by Presley McCaskill and Abby Plevin in the No. 5 lineup position. The Ducks completed the match sweep with a three-set result at No. 3 pairs by Valerie Peterson and Batia Rotshtein. The 21-18, 17-21, 15-11 triumph doubled as the 20th-career win for Rotshtein.
