Serving up six: Badgers host Arizona and Miami


MADISON, Wis. — No. 1 Wisconsin (5-0) continues its home season, playing two matches in the UW Field House this week. The Badgers face Arizona (3-3) on Thursday at 7 p.m. live on FS1.  On Friday, UW takes on Miami (4-1) at 7 p.m., streamed on B1G+.

1. STILL PERFECT: Wisconsin opens the season 5-0 for the seventh time in the last 11 years under head coach Kelly Sheffield. The Badgers are 4-0 against top-25 ranked teams this season. UW is one of only two Big Ten teams and 33 teams in the nation that are still undefeated this season. AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll

2. BIG HITTERS: UW has hit better than .300 in four-of-five matches this season, leading the Big Ten and ranking 11th nationally at .323. Wisconsin hit .306 (62-17-147) against Tennessee, which ranks second on the UW five-set single-match record list. Individually, Carter Booth ranks third in the Big Ten at .508 while Anna Smrek ranks fifth at .427.

3. TOP DOGS: The Badgers also lead the Big Ten in points per set (17.95), kills per set (14.00), assists per set (13.15) and blocks allowed (1.43).

4. RECORD ON THE HORIZON: Grad student Izzy Ashburn has 163 career service aces, needing three aces to move into a tie for first on the UW career record list. Margie Kaminski (1984-87) holds the record with 166 service aces.

5. FRANK THE TANK : Senior Sarah Franklin is counting down to 1,000 career kills, needing 26 putaways to reach the grand mark. The 6-foot-4 outside hitter has 974 career kills and has recorded double-figure kills in eight-straight matches, dating back to last season. She leads the Badgers and ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 3.94 kills per set.

6. BADGER BLOCK PARTY: Wisconsin has double-digit blocks in four matches this season, ranking fourth in the Big Ten and 20th nationally with 2.90 blocks per set. Sophomore Carter Booth ranks seventh in the Big Ten with 1.35 blocks per set while senior Caroline Crawford ranks 10th with 1.25 blocks per set.
