Shroll Gets Third Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Award

IRVING, Texas – After another week of holding down the defense for No. 13 Sun Devil Volleyball with season-high numbers, graduate libero Mary Shroll is the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, third time this season.

This is the third-straight week with a weekly award winner for Arizona State, fourth of the year. ASU’s record for the most in a single season is five, set last season. Shroll’s third defensive nod is a Sun Devil record for the most defensive player of the week wins in a season and in a career. For the full list of winners, head to the Big 12’s website.

Shroll had another stellar week, totaling 60 digs over the two wins. She had a season-high 32 in the rivalry win over Arizona. That total is the second-highest by a Big 12 player this season, but the most in a four-set match. The Sun Devils had 93 digs in the win against Arizona, the most by a Big 12 team this season in a four-set match. She also notched 28 digs against Texas Tech, which is the highest dig total in the Big 12 this season in three sets. She’s currently on a streak of 20-straight matches with double-digit digs and is sixth in the nation in digs per set (5.27). She leads the conference in total digs and digs per set.

Arizona State is home this week, hosting Houston on Wednesday and Colorado on Friday, both in Mullett Arena.
