Soaring Eagles Drop Empire 8 Matchup to Knights on Friday Evening

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles dropped its Friday evening Empire 8 matchup to the visiting Knights from SUNY Geneseo, 3-0. The Knights, who exploded for 40 kills and just seven errors throughout the match (.462 hitting percentage), held the Soaring Eagle attack to just 17 kills, while forcing 23 attacking errors (-.075%). 

The Knights were paced by Cory Elder and Kathryn Barba, who notched nine kills a piece, while Makenna Clark ’25 recorded seven kills, while Morgan Sica ’28 had five. Erin Bracken ’28 would notch 13 set assists.

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (2-16, 0-4 Empire 8), SUNY Geneseo (4-11, 1-2 Empire 8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Knights would record a 25-13 opening set victory while recording 11 kills and just one attacking error. For Elmira, they would notch seven kills to go along with ten errors. 
  • In the second, Geneseo would be tabbed with again just one attacking error, while notching 12 kills. For the match, Geneseo would also show strong blocking, as they finished with 12 block assists and three solo blocks. 
  • In the second, the Knights would hold EC to just eight points from the floor.
  • In the third and final set, the Knights would record a match-best 17 kills, while EC improved upon its hitting percentage with a game-low four errors for the set.

The Soaring Eagles return to the floor tomorrow afternoon when taking on the Golden Eagles from SUNY Brockport in another Empire 8 match.
