Soaring Eagles Fall in Friday Evening Matchup to Gators

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball team dropped its Friday evening matchup to the Gators from Russell Sage College, 3-0. Elmira, who saw eight kills from Makenna Clark ’24, would see its first two sets go 20-25, before the final was decided by a score of 25-15. 

JUST THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elmira 0, Russell Sage 3

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (2-20, 0-8 Empire 8), Russell Sage (13-11, 3-5 Empire 8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles would hit .333% from the floor in the opening set, but saw just nine kills compared to 14 for the Gators. After leading in the set 11-8, Elmira would surrender eight straight points as Russell Sage took a 16-11 lead, before the teams traded points back and forth with Sage taking the set 25-20. 
  • Sage would keep the momentum going, taking a 5-0 lead out the gate to begin the second set, and would never surrender the lead as they took the second set by the same score as the first. 
  • In the third, EC would hold a 9-6 lead in the early going before Russell Sage took 11 of 13 points in the middle of the set to take a lead of six points. The Gators would secure victory with back-to-back service aces. 
  • For the match, Elmira would hit .125% from the floor on 22 kills, with the Gators hitting .270% from the court on 33 kills. Madi Conti ’28 would chip in six kills, while Asia Curkendall ’25 added 11 assists.
