Soaring Eagles See Balanced Offensive Attack in Setback Against Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball team traveled to Rochester, New York on Friday evening to play Empire 8 opponent Nazareth University, falling 3-0 against the top ranked team in the conference. Madi Conti ’28, Asia Curkendall ’25, and Makenna Clark ’25 would pace Elmira offensively with six kills a piece, while Erin Bracken ’28 recorded ten set assists. Defensively, Gabriella Rodriguez ’26 would notch ten digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles and Golden Flyers would battle in the first set, trading points until Nazareth eventually led 22-18 in the late-going. After an attacking error and two other points for the Purple & Gold brought its deficit to just one, Nazareth would secure a hard-fought first set with a block, taking the frame 25-22. 
  • In the opening frame, the Purple & Gold held Nazareth to a .054 hitting percentage, while Makenna Clark ’24 led the way with five kills. 
  • In the second set, the Golden Flyers would take the frame 25-18, improving its hitting percentage to .286% in the set after going for 12 kills, compared to Elmira’s eight. Additionally, Nazareth would record four blocks in the set.
  • In the third, the two teams would battle, sharing the first eight points with one another. The Golden Flyers would then take six of the next seven points to extend its lead, before doubling it with a 16-8 advantage….
