SOUTH GAS FACE NO ISSUES IN SHUTTING OUT KAM AIR IN STRAIGHT SETS

Manama, Bahrain, May 16, 2023 – South Gas Sports Club notched their second victory in the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship after demolishing Kam Air VC of Afghanistan in thrilling three-setter 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 at Issa Bin Rashed Hall 1 on Tuesday.

After 0-3 loss in their opening Pool A clash to Iran’s Shahdab Yazd, South Gas Sports Club of Iraq came back much stronger to the event against Taichung Bank and Kam Air VC to bag two wins in succession to successfully move up to the quarterfinals.

South Gas Sports Club, seven-time champions in the Iraq Super League, were working as a well-oiled machine on Tuesday, penetrating the rivals’ defence with their aggressive attacks and solid blocks to claim the first two sets 25-18, 25-22 thanks to the Bulgarian star Todor Skirmov’s awesome performance.

Kam Air VC hit back bravely in an effort of reviving their fortunes in the third set, but the Iraqi defence proved impeccable, allowing the rivals scoring difficulties. With the wind in their sails, South Gas Sports Club were superior in every department to eventually capture the set 25-19 for a sensational 3-0 win.

Russian Aleksandr Petrov and Bulgarian Todor Skirmov led South Gas Sports Club with 15 points apiece, while Sabawoo Wardak, Habib Yousufi, and Rasool Hidari registered 10 points apiece on Kam Air’s losing effort.
