Cortland senior outside hitter Hannah Southcott (Princeton, WV) and junior libero Carly Haegele (Commack) have been selected as 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III women’s volleyball honorable mention All-Americans.
In addition, Southcott and Haegele were named to the AVCA Region 3 all-region first team, senior outside hitter Nicole Van Pelt (Montgomery/Valley Central) and freshman middle blocker Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) were honorable mention all-region choices, and Cortland head coach Erin Glickert has been voted as the AVCA Region 3 Coach of the Year.
Glickert led the Red Dragons to a 27-4 record this past fall. Cortland won the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 9-0 record, then won the conference postseason tournament for its first league title since 2012. Cortland also won its NCAA Division III tournament opening-round match versus U.S. Merchant Marine Academy before losing to Tufts in the second round to tie for 17th place nationally.
Southcott earned All-America recognition for the first time; she was all-region honorable mention in 2019. The SUNYAC Player of the Year, Southcott finished the season with 385 kills (3.85 per set), a .270 attack percentage and 272 digs in 100 sets over 28 matches. Her 22 double-figure kill matches included 23 each in home wins over Geneseo and Ithaca, 22 in a win at Kean, and 19 each in victories over Montclair State and Buffalo State.
Haegele, the SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year, played in all 31 matches and finished the season with team highs of 549 digs (4.9 per set) and 49 aces (0.4 per set). She posted 30 digs in a regular-season win over Geneseo, 28 digs each in wins against Buffalo State and Liberty League champion Clarkson, and 27 in a win at Montclair State. In all, she had 13 matches with at least 20 digs.
Van Pelt appeared in all 31 matches and in 114 sets recorded 386 kills (3.4 per set) and a .225 attack percentage. She was chosen as the SUNYAC Tournament MVP after posting a combined 28 kills in two Red Dragon victories, and she also earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the eight-team NCAA regional hosted by Johns Hopkins after registering 17 kills versus Merchant Marine and eight against Tufts.
Guedez started 30 matches, and in 110 sets she totaled 117 blocks (1.1 per set), 170 kills (1.6 per set) and a team-high .278…
