The player of Eczacıbaşı Dynavit, Maja Ognjenović, will play again for the Serbian national team, as reported by the Italian Gazeta delo Sport in blog of Gian Luca Pasini.
The Italian website states that Ognjenović has accepted the invitation of Serbia’s new coach, Giovanni Guidetti, to join the national team once again.
After the release of this information by Italian media, sportklub.rs contacted Maja and conducted a brief interview.
In this interview Maja clarified that she had never really left the team, stating that she was just taking a break and continuing from where she left off in 2021. She also dismissed the idea of her return, as she had not officially retired from the team. Maja has played in 302 official matches for the Serbian national team and holds 16 national team medals from the biggest FIVB and CEV competitions.
The new coach of Serbia, Giovanni Guidetti, is a familiar face to Maja as he was her former coach. Maja shared that they have discussed her return and agreed on some details, but they still need to talk again.
Maja has a high opinion of Giovanni Guidetti, whom she believes will bring new things to the work and life of Serbia’s national team. Guidetti is a great coach whose trophies speak for themselves, but he has not won any golden national team medals. Maja is convinced that he will attain the coveted national team gold with their support, and she has no doubt that he will introduce fresh perspectives to the team. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him once more.
In conclusion, Maja Ognjenović’s return to the Serbian national team is great news for her fans and the team. Her experience and skills will undoubtedly be valuable to the team.
