Male, Maldives, July 22, 2024 – The CAVA Women’s U20 Volleyball Championship is reaching its thrilling conclusion as Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan have secured their spots in the final following their convincing straight-set wins in the Monday’s semifinal encounters.
Sri Lanka dominated the newly-formed Maldives with a totally one-sided 25-9, 25-8, 25-7 win in 50 minutes to emerge as the first team to qualify for the final showdown.
Skipper Herath M. Chathuri P.A. chipped in 12 points including 11 attacks from 24 attempts. No Maldives player reached double digits, with Solah Maaya Hussain scoring 9 points from 8 kills and one block on the hosts’ loss.
Kyrgyzstan followed suit, overcoming Nepal with a solid performance (25-14, 25-22, 25-13) to claim the second spot in the final.
Rasulbek Kyzy Roza skippered Kyrgyzstan to the exceptional victory with 12 points including 11 attacks from 24 attempts, while Sunar Mina delivered 10 points on the Nepal’s loss.
The semifinals witnessed an impressive turnout of sports stakeholders and fans. The Maldives, as hosts, showcased their improved infrastructure, highlighting their commitment to fostering a new era in volleyball.
The championship’s final day is set for Tuesday, July 23. The much-anticipated gold medal match features the formidable teams of Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan, promising an intense and exciting showdown. Meanwhile, the Maldives and Nepal will compete in the classification round to determine the third and fourth places.
