PITTSBURGH – Freshman outside hitter Torrey Stafford has been named ACC Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. This is the first ACC honor for Stafford.
Stafford started all three matches this weekend and averaged 2.91 kills per set while hitting .265 from the pin for a total of 32 kills. She also averaged 1.27 digs per set and impressed from the service line, adding six aces.
Stafford immediately impressed in the Panther Challenge, recording 16 kills, six digs and three blocks against No. 7 Oregon. She followed that up with eight kills on a .421 hitting clip, four digs and two blocks in a 3-0 victory over JMU. Stafford concluded the weekend with eight kills, four digs, three blocks and a career-high four aces in a sweep of High Point.
