STANFORD, Calif. – Will Rottman and Kevin Lamp combined for 31 kills, but No. 7 Stanford came up short to No. 6 BYU, 13-25, 25-16, 25-23, 23-25, 16-18, Friday, in Maples Pavilion.
BYU (11-6, 2-3 MPSF) out hit the Cardinal (8-9, 1-4 MPSF), .322 to .285. Stanford held a 9-6 advantage in aces and a 7.0 to 6.5 edge in blocks.
Rottman finished with a team-high 17 kills, six digs, a block and an ace. Lamp notched 14 kills on .308 hitting to go with season-highs in digs (9) and assists (3).

Setter Nathan Lietzke controlled the offense with 50 assists. The Austin native also tallied eight digs, five kills and matched his career-high with four aces. Libero Luke Turner collected a team-high 11 digs.

Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates hit .533 with nine kills on 15 swings with just one miscue to go with a team-high six blocks, including two solo.

Opposite Moses Wagner turned in seven kills, seven digs, four blocks and tied his career-high with three aces. Middle blocker Ethan Hill hit .556 with five kills on nine errorless swings.
BYU was led by Kupono Browne’s match-high 26 kills on .388 hitting, five digs and two aces. Outside hitter Luke Benson added 13 kills, seven digs and two aces, while Miks Ramanis had 12 kills and a match-high 13 digs.
Stanford and BYU square off again on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Admission is free.
