Club Wamco’s Kuttika Kaewpin from Thailand tries to tip over the Maldives Police Club’s blockers in an all-Maldivian affair
Male, Maldives, September 16, 2024 – Nepal Police Club and hosts Club Wamco wrapped up their second matches in convincing fashion on Monday to maintain their unbeaten streaks in the 2024 CAVA Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in the picturesque city of Male here, leaving fans excited for upcoming encounters.
Nepal Police Club
The opening match of the day saw Nepal Police Club, fresh from 3-0 shutout of Humo VC from Uzbekistan, maintain their unbeaten streak. The well-organized side delivered a dominant performance against Sri Lanka Air Force team, winning in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-21).
The Air Force team, still reeling from their Day 1 defeat to hosts Club Wamco, put up a strong fight but fell short of breaking Nepal Police Club’s momentum.
Usha Bhandari was the standout performer, tallying 15 points for Nepal Police Club. No player of the Sri Lankan side scored double digits, with Prasadani Jayamaha H.D. scoring 9 points.
In the second match, Uzbekistan’s Humo VC bounced back from the stunning loss on the previous day, showcasing their prowess to brush aside VC Diamed of Tajikistan in a swift 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-12) victory.
VC Diamed struggled to keep up with Humo’s high tempo and efficiency, going down in two straight matches.
The final match of the day featured a much-anticipated all-Maldivian showdown between Club Wamco and Maldives Police Club.
With the crowd backing Club Wamco, they made quick work of their compatriots to seal the deal in well-fought straight sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-20.
After two days into the single round-robin preliminaries, Nepal Police Club stayed atop the six-team standing with 6 points from two wins in succession, not dropping a set to their opponents. Club Wamco of Maldives also bagged 6 points from two straight wins, but, due to the win/loss set ratio, came in second position.
Humo VC from Uzbekistan and Maldives Police Club are trailing in third and fourth places with similar performances to claim 3 points from one win against one loss. Sri Lanka Air Force and VC Diamed of Tajikistan finished respective fifth and sixth places with two losses in a row.
