Sun Devils Compete With No. 7 Stanford In 3-1 Loss

TEMPE, Ariz. — Sun Devil Volleyball took the first set from No. 7 Stanford before dropping the next three to fall 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16) in Desert Financial Arena on Sunday. 

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (9-11, 3-5 Pac-12) and Stanford (12-4, 7-1 Pac-12) battled toe to toe in the first two sets, seeing 23 ties and 11 lead changes in just those sets. However, the Cardinal took charge in the latter two frames to get the win.
  • Junior outside hitter Roberta Rabelo surpassed her season high from Friday by earning 12 kills on a .345 clip, which was the best hitting percentage in the match among all pin hitters. 
  • Another Sun Devil in double figures in kills was senior Iman Isanovic with 13 to lead all players. She also had eight digs and two blocks.
  • Leading the Sun Devil defense were senior libero Annika Larson-Nummer with 14 and sophomore Geli Cyr with 11. Larson-Nummer has reached double figures in digs in eight of the last nine matches, including the last five in a row.
  • Senior setter Shannon Shields had 34 assists and a near double-double with nine digs. She reached exactly 1,000 career assists today.
  • A couple from ASU earned new career highs in blocks. Leading in blocks today was sophomore middle blocker Andi Kreiling with six, a new personal best for her. Freshman opposite Leah Miller had a career-high four blocks in the match. Both of them also had five kills each.
