Sunday Sweep for #16 Volleyball Over St. John’s

SAN DIEGO – The perfect start to the season continues for No. 16 Sun Devil Volleyball as the team swept St. John’s (25-20, 25-7, 26-24) on Sunday afternoon at Jenny Craig Pavilion to finish the Jack Talmadge Volleyball Classic.

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (6-0) ended the tournament undefeated and kept the winning streak alive after beating St. John’s (4-2). 
  • Graduate Claire Jeter, a middle blocker, hit a blistering .733, a new career high and tied for the fourth-best in ASU history in the rally-scoring era. She had 11 kills on 15 attempts with no errors. She also had three blocks and an ace. She is now tied for fifth in career total blocks at ASU with 362.
  • The other game leader in kills was graduate outside hitter Shania Cromartie, also earning 11. She hit .450 (a season best) and had seven digs.
  • Graduate libero Mary Shroll held down the defense again with a team-high 13 digs. She has reached double figures in every match this season. She also had three aces, matching her season best. 
  • At setter, graduate Argentina Ung had 36 assists, seven digs, four kills and three blocks.
  • Junior pin hitter Bailey Miller had eight kills on a .467 clip, which is a new season best for her.

To start the match, the Sun Devils created some distance with a quick 3-0 run to make it 9-6, capped off by a kill from Geli Cyr.
