Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 22, 2024 – Club teams representing hosts Thailand, Kazakhstan, Philippines and Japan opened their bid in the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship with victories over respective match-ups on Sunday at the Chartchai Hall.
Pool A
Home team Nakhon Ratchasima QminC displayed their dominance over Kwai Tsing of Hong Kong, China, punching in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-12) win during the main event. Phontham Papatchaya, Sittisad Patcharaporn and Paowana Nokyoong all figured in double-digits markers as the scoring triumvirate in their first victory.
Earlier, in the 2024 edition’s opening match, Kazakhstan’s Kuanysh VC defeated Vietnam’s Duc Giang Chemical 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20). Captain Yulia Dymar and Sana Anarkulova combined for 26 big points for the 2022 champions. The Kazakh club imposed the biggest and heaviest damage with their blocks, scoring off 12 deflections against their opponents.
Pool B
The Philippines’ Monolith Sky Risers shocked a more experienced Saipa Club from Iran 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18). University stand-outs Alyssa Jae Solomon and captain Mhicaela Belen posted 22 points and 20 points respectively, as they played against the fourth placers in the 2021 edition. The Filipino club performed strategically from the service line, sending off a total of 10 service winners in the match.
Later, Japan’s NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki swept Vietnam’s LPBank Ninh Binh 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-18), with Yoshino Sato charting a total of 21 points. While Vietnam club captain Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen posted a higher output of 24 points, the Japan club’s consistent orchestration of their all-around game provided the winning spark in Sunday’s match.
The preliminary phase continues until Wednesday before teams head to a rest and recovery day. The quarterfinals set on Friday will then define the semifinal slots for Saturday, with the culmination of the Championship on Sunday, September 29.
From the eight participating teams, the two highest-ranked teams will earn the right to compete in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship to be held in China in December 2024.
