Athens, Tenn.- The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) announced the end-of-the-year awards for the sport of volleyball on Wednesday. The awards, announced at the conference tournament banquet in Kingsport, Tenn., consisted of the All-Conference Teams, the AAC All-Academic Team, and the AAC Champions of Character Team. The All-Conference Teams are voted on by the coaches of the conference and each member of the AAC Champions of Character Team is selected by their respective head coach.
Marjorie Smith was named to the All-AAC Second Team. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native was fifth in the conference in kills with 342 on the season and was fourth in the AAC in kills per set (3.32). The senior outside hitter also finished the season with 286 digs.. Smith became the school’s all-time leader in career kills to begin the season, and finishes her career with 1,308 kills, making her the only player in program history on record with over 1,000 career kills. This is the second time Smith has been named to the All-AAC Second Team during her playing career (2019).
Making the AAC All-Academic Team were Cierra Williams and Aly Grace Lemons. To earn the honor of being named to the AAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must hold a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and be a sophomore, junior or senior in academic eligibility.
McKenzie Banfield was named the team’s representative to the AAC Champions of Character Team.
