Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team was back on their home court on Friday. The team hosted an opponent from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC), the Columbia International University Lady Rams.

A back and forth first set occurred between the two teams. Kills by Jenna Huppert, Marjorie Smith, and Aly Grace Lemons along with a Grayson Fleming service ace helped the Lady Bulldogs lead 6-5. Columbia International took control of the set though, scoring eight of the next nine points to move ahead 13-7. TWU cut the deficit in half with three straight points, including a kill by Ariana Smith. Maggie Olson‘s service ace brought the team within three points of the lead again with the scoreboard reading 17-14. The team could not pull closer though as the Lady Rams went on to take the first set 25-17.

The second set did not start the way TWU had wanted with Columbia International taking a 7-2 lead. The team battled back, using points from A. Smith, Lemons, M. Smith, and a Jayda Perry service ace to take a 16-15 lead. The visitors did not let the team hold on to the lead though, going on to outscore the team 10-3 to win the second set 25-19.

Unfortunately in the third set, the momentum stayed with the visitors as they scored the first 15 points in the set. Madison Coffey registered a kill in the set but it would not be enough as the Lady Rams went on to take the set 25-9 and the match 3-0.

Cierra Williams finished with 15 digs in the match while Huppert led the team with six kills. Olivia Bolin and Perry each had 10 assists.
