Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team went on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match on Tuesday. The team traveled north to face the Union College Lady Bulldogs.
The first set saw Union score nine of the first 11 points to lead 9-2. Points by Olivia Miller, Kali Bowie, and Amya Sutton brought the team back to within three points of the lead with the scoreboard reading 11-8. A service ace by Olivia Bolin made the score 15-10 but TWU was not able to pull closer as the team fell 25-14 in the first set.
After falling behind 4-0, three straight points brought the team back within one point. An error by the opponents along with a Shante Smith service ace and Sutton kill were the three points for the team. The team was not able to turn the set in their favor as Union took the second set 25-15.
Through the first eight points of the third set, a service ace by Megan Thompson put the set in a 4-4 tie. Thompson broke the tie with a second consecutive service ace to give the team a 5-4 lead. The opponents went on a scoring rally, moving ahead 14-6. The team made one more run at the score, using points from Madison Coffey, an error from Union, Sutton, and Kamari Jackson to pull within two points of the lead.
